Live Below Your Means

During premarital counseling, we were taught to live off one income. Because we did that, it allowed us some flexibility when an emergency came up or when I started a business, or even after having kids. We had money to do things we enjoyed other than just paying bills.

A friend once suggested I should drive a different car because of my status. That didn’t make sense to me. Why would I drive a car for status? There’s nothing wrong with it if that’s what you want, but I love my car. My goal was to be the millionaire next door. I live a simple life by choice.

I have the choice because of my choices. Living below my means gives me options. Think about it: what can you do differently now while you have the flexibility to do so?

It’s called freedom!
